Activity November 2011

Mid October I tried to find water mites in the « marais de Fretin » and as I didn’t found any of them in a place however very suitable for water mites I think I will spent less time in the field and more time in the laboratory for the winter month. BTW I have plenty of things to do in the meantime, I have a lot of pictures of living water mites taken in Brittany in July and in Sri Lanka in August, I also have dozens of water mite in 3 small vials waiting from Sri Lanka but during this autumn months I will focus on a very important task : improving the quality of my pictures.

Up to now, I use my Panasonic GH1 and a rather good manual macro lens (Elicar V-HQ) or my stereo microscope which is very disappointing on the quality level of the pictures. To improve my pictures of water mites, I’m trying to use a microscope objective with my micro four third camera Panasonic GH1.

Here are some articles on this subject :

  • 04/11/2011 : As I’ve just received my first microscope objective, here is an article on the Leica C Plan 4x.
  • 05/11/2011 : I am not sure I need it  but I’ve also bought a Ihagee macro bellow.
  • 27/11/2011 : As I’ve just received my tube lens from surplus shed, I’ve also published an article on how to mount an infinity microscope objective on a camera. For the time being I’m not able to do fine focusing so I can’t take pictures of my conserved water mites.
