La Varenne
This small river of maybe 5 meter of width with rather fast moving water. In the bed of the river large clump of Callitriche (water-starworts) are thriving.
I spend 10 minutes with my net just before joining a party for my grandmother 95’s birthday and I was very lucky with the water mites. I had a crop of more than 10 specimens. It was the 15th of July 2012.
The river Varenne is about to be a « Natura 2000 » natural site. Its biodiversity is considered as an asset by the surrounding community. A website in french.
